From Kitchen Table to PRCA Medium Agency of the Year

The easiest way to see how work has changed in the last decade is to walk through Glasgow city centre in a suit.

When earing one for an awards do, I got six separate comments from strangers. All variations on “looking smart, big man”, all delivered with that mix of affection and mild suspicion Glasgow does so well.

I used to wear a suit every day when I started out in PR. Now it feels like putting on armour.

This time, though, there was a good reason for it.

Story Shop at the PRCA Dare Awards

In the space of a week, Story Shop picked up four awards:

🏆 Best Integrated CampaignMossgiel Organic Dairy (PRCA DARE Awards)

🏆 Best Charity / Not-For-Profit CampaignMy Name’5 Doddie Foundation (PRCA DARE Awards) – for the second year running

🏆 Medium Agency of the Year (10–25 people)PRCA DARE Awards

🏆 Silver, PR Campaign of the YearThe Marketing Society Awards (again for Mossgiel Organic Dairy)

For a team that started as two people in a flat during lockdown, trying to build a different kind of PR agency, that week meant a lot.

Why the PRCA Medium Agency of the Year matters

The easiest way to see how work has changed in the last decade is to walk through Glasgow city centre in a suit.

Awards aren’t the point of the work. But PRCA Medium Agency of the Year is a line in the sand for us.

It says:

  • we’ve grown from a micro outfit to a medium-sized agency without losing our edge

  • our work for brands like Mossgiel, The Social Hub, Innis & Gunn, Glasgow Kelvin College and My Name’5 Doddie Foundation stands up against the best in the UK

  • our decision to stay independent, journalism-led and earned-first was the right one

For anyone searching for a Scottish PR partner to handle campaigns that go far beyond Scotland, complex causes or creative brand launches, it’s another bit of external proof that we can be trusted with the big stuff.

The trophies are nice, but the real pride sits in:

  • Making The Maclean Brothers a global story and raising more than £1M

  • Helping The Social Hub create a better society as it emerges as the  go-to brand in Europe for students, travellers and co-workers who think differenty

  • Making  Innis & Gunn Scotland’s favourite premium lager

  • Helping Mossgiel hit its crowdfunding target, and becoming an international news story in the process

  • Our own team stepping up, again and again, to do the kind of work we’d be proud to put in front of anyone

If you’re tired of PR agencies doing things the way they’ve always been done, and are looking for one who thinks differently and cares a lot about doing the work properly, we’d love to talk.
